KARPAL SINGH

Today’s front page news for all major newspapers is about an incident that took place in our parliament yesterday. A group of 22 men claiming to be Selangor Umno Youth members confronted DAP Chairman Karpal Singh just outside the Parliament tower block yesterday. The STAR reported that the incident took place around 2.45pm. The men surrounded Karpal Singh who is the Bukit Gelugor MP, shouting and demanding that he retract the word celaka which he had used in reference to Umno Youth during his debate speech on Wednesday. The STAR also reported that Karpal Singh said had called the police for help but no one came to his aid except for his party members.

I was shocked and regretted to hear about the incident. How such incident can took place in such a respectful place? The incident shows that the culture of gangsterism in us. Karpal Singh is a handicap individual and should not be treated such way. In fact, everyone be it normal healthy or handicap shoul be treated that way. I know that his remark has spark uneasiness for some, but there are proper ways to show our disagreement.

I agree with MCA Youth chief Datuk Dr Wee Ka Siong. We are in a democratic society. Anyone is entitled to their views. You can agree to disagree but no one is above the law and cannot take the law into his own hands.

To all politicians, please show some level of maturity!!
