CRIMES

The crime rates are increasing day by day. Everyone has potential of becoming crime victims. Last few days, an elderly man was thrown into a fire after he was robbed. He suffered serious injuries in his face and hands. Where is the value of sympathy? A NGO also revealed that number of raped cases doubled in 4 years. The latest crime that has caught my attention is 2 pregnant ladies were killed by snatch theft within the last 24 hours. What is happening to our community? What went wrong?

The economy meltdown that has affected the whole world has contributed to the increase in crime rates nowadays. Many companies have to close their businesses resulting many have lost their source of income. With the current economic crisis, they are unable to search for new jobs. At the same time, these people still have dependents to support. Their only way to get some money to support their dependents is none other than to be involved in criminal practice. I understand their problems but what I disagree is that why do they have attack elderly and pregnant ladies? Perhaps because they are easy target but I don’t think there a need to throw the poor man into a fire. Enough by taking his money. I also don’t think one should forcefully grab the handbags from the pregnant ladies until they dropped and die.

I stand on my belief that the government is to be blamed entirely for the increase in crime rates. The government has failed to provide a safe society for the people. The government has failed to use their available powers curb crimes and as I mentioned above the government has failed to provide sufficient jobs for their people. This is not because I am anti-government. But, I do believe that this is the job of the government of the day regardless of which political party they belong to. The job of a leader is very hard. Each leader will be questioned in front of Allah on what they have done to their people. Supposedly, we should try to avoid as far as possible to become a leader as it is very hard job. As what we can see today in Perak is the other way round. Power struggle. Everyone wants to be the leader. Sigh

Move on to the religious side of view. The problem is due to our practice to implement only just part of The Quran and at the same time reject most part. We only take what suits us best. In Surah Al-Baqarah verse 85,

“Then is it only a part of the Book that you believe in, and you reject the rest? But what is the reward for those among you who behave like this but disgrace in this life? – and on the Day of Judgement they shall be consigned to the most grievous penalty”

Try to recall and look on what was our communities’ reaction when the idea of implementing hudud was brought to our attention. I can understand if the non Muslim rejected the idea. But what happens was the other way round. Muslims rejected the idea. Their excuse is in Hudud we have to provide 4 witnesses which for them hard to find. They claimed that it is ineffective. My question to them is how effective the man made law to prevent crimes? The answer is obvious, right? What is happening around us is the price that we have to pay when we rejected Allah’s commands. Allah never lies. Whatever He says is going to be a reality.

In this posting, after saying what I want to say, I have 2 messages for all of us to ponder.

1. For leaders and leaders-to-be, STOP POLITICS and START WORKING. Being leaders is not an easy job. You have huge responsibility on your shoulder. Do justice to your people.

2. Who is the best to decide what is good and what is bad for us? Ourselves or our creator?
